Dear St. Joseph School Families,
Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the day we sent our students home with a 2-week work packet assuming that we would be back to school within the 2 weeks. Little did we know that one year later we would be marking the year since the world pandemic was proclaimed. We mourn the deaths of many in our world, including some in our own school family, associated with this virus. We also give thanks for the gifted and dedicated people God has sent to heal, comfort, and bring hope to the world. We rejoice in our school family’s ability to continue to pray, learn, and even play together in such a difficult time. Today we reach our 115th day of in-person learning at a time when many children in our country continue to learn from home, or are just returning to full time in person school. May God continue to bless our entire school family and all families.
Called to serve in this Lenten season, our physical education classes are engaged in the Jump Rope for Heart activities through the American Heart Association. Next week, on March 18th, our 7th and 8th graders will be cooking (in a safe manner) for the Community Meal Center. The meal will be cooked here at school and delivered by adults to be distributed by Meal Center personnel. The rest of our students will be making cards to cheer those who visit the Meal Center to pick up their meals. No names will be included.
We remind everyone that our faculty will participate in a virtual professional development day on Monday, March 15th; therefore, school will be closed.
Re-registrations for current students for the 2021-2022 school year are due now. Please send your form in as soon as possible. We do have waiting lists for most grades and would like to respond to the families who are waiting to hear from us. Application forms must be completed for Kindergarten students, as well as the Kindergarten questionnaire, whether these are siblings of current students or not. These can be requested through the office or printed from the website at sjsnl.com under prospective families. Kindergarten screening will take place at a later date. Thank you for your prompt response.
While we won’t be able to celebrate with our usual St. Patrick’s Day dinner, we will celebrate in school on March 17th with the “wearing of the green”. Uniforms may be put aside St. Patrick’s Day (a patron of our Diocese). Green shirts, socks, sweaters, all things green may be worn. This is a casual day, but everyone is expected to wear something green in honor of St. Patrick.
St. Joseph Day is March 19. Traditionally, this is the day on which our 8th graders receive their class pins. A prayer celebration will be held in Church for the Class of 2021 and their families on March 19th at 1:30 p.m. with a special surprise following in the fresh air.
The “ButterBraid” fundraiser has come to an end. Please look for information regarding the delivery of your breads prior to Easter.
The next report card date is scheduled for March 26th. When you receive it, please remember to sign and return the envelope to school to indicate your receipt of the report.
Please keep all those who are in need in your prayers. You are in ours always.
