Principal’s Letter, 03/24/21

                                                                                                March 24, 2021

Dear St. Joseph School Families,

This week at prayer our school family is reminded of our anointing with the oil of Baptism.  In Baptism we are anointed into the royal priesthood of Christ and called to be prophets of his Word.  Being called to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, we serve the people of God.  Our 7th and 8th graders who prepared the meal for the Community Meal Center and our students who prepared the “thinking of you” cards, answered that call last week.  Our 8th graders proudly wear their class pins, received on the Feast of St. Joseph, as a sign that they understand the mission to which we are all called as the St. Joseph School Family.

As we continue this Lenten journey, we pray, sacrifice and serve.  Our Lenten Rice Bowls are due this Friday.  Please return your donations for this to the school and they will be forwarded to the charities for which they were given.

Re-registrations for current students for the 2021-2022 school year are due now.  Please send your forms in as soon as possible.  We do have waiting lists for most grades and would like to respond to the families who are waiting to hear from us.  Application forms and the Kindergarten questionnaire must be completed for all prospective Kindergarten students, whether they are siblings of current students or not. These forms may be requested from the office, or printed from our website at www. sjsnl.com under prospective families.  Kindergarten screening will take place at a date to be determined. Thank you for your prompt response.

We ask that you please remember to call the office the day before or the morning of the day that your child is going to be absent.  Please do not email or text the teacher for this purpose.

Butter Braid orders are being delivered to the parking lot between the school and church today at dismissal time.

The school has received a donation of a beautiful handmade afghan from Mrs. Pernerewski, one of our retired first grade teachers.  She loves books and taught her students a love of literature. We have decided to conduct a raffle of this lovely blanket for the benefit of our library.  A picture of the afghan is on our Facebook page.  Chances will be sold for $1.00 each.  A form will be sent home for this purpose.  Please complete the form with the number of tickets you would like to purchase and return it to school with the appropriate donation. The raffle will take place on the Friday after Easter, April 9th.

The next report card date is scheduled for March 26th.  When you receive the report card, please remember to sign and return the envelope to school to indicate your receipt of the report. Eighth graders will receive 2 copies.  One is for you and the other is to accompany your form for the Reagan-Twomey/Pfister Foundation Awards.  For those of you who are not aware, this Foundation awards scholarship money for those graduating from St. Joseph and attending St. Bernard School for high school.  This is a sizeable amount of money, dependent of the number of years the student has attended St. Joseph School prior to graduation.  Students have received as much as $7000 per year, renewable each year of attendance at St. Bernard.

Please keep all those who are in need in your prayers.  You are in ours always.
