Principal’s Letter – 05/19/21

May 19, 2021

Dear St. Joseph School Families,

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost.  Pentecost commemorates the day that the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, allowing them to speak in a way that all the people assembled were able to understand.  It is said in Scripture that thousands were Baptized with the Spirit on that day.  We believe that this is the day all were called to do the work that Jesus began—the work of compassion, mercy, and peace.

Please keep in mind that although the mask-wearing has been lifted in some areas, schools are required to continue with masks for the time being.  Also, with the warm weather coming, we ask that your children continue to bring their water bottles.  Many are asking for cups, and these are not sufficient or safe for carrying through the building.

We are finding that some students are not wearing their school shirts under sweatshirts.  In the warm weather they will be asked to remove the sweatshirts in the classrooms; please remind your children of the appropriate uniform to be worn without the sweatshirt.

Since the next school year appears to be looking as if there will be more normalcy, we will be returning to all of our rules.  As a beginning, hoodies will no longer be worn in the classrooms.  The school will be adhering to its summer uniform policies at this time.  Sneakers must be white, black, blue, or gray only.  Khaki shorts of an appropriate length, and polo shirts with school logo are to be worn as well.  Ordering information for the current and coming school year may be found on our website at sjsnl.com under announcements. This includes a 20% discount coupon for uniforms ordered prior to June 15th.  Orders may be made online and by phone.

Our final day of school for this year will be on June 9th.  This will be a short day—10:30 dismissal, as is our school tradition.  The 3 days prior to this will be 12:30 p.m. dismissal days.  These would be June 4th, 7th, and 8th.  Afterschool care will be available on these days, but not on the 9th. The closing Mass will take place at 9 a.m. on the 9th. Students will be promoted and then return to school to receive their report cards and say their goodbyes for the summer.  Students will not be dismissed earlier than the 10:30 dismissal time.

Registration continues for Grades K-7.  If you are aware of someone who is interested in attending St. Joseph School for those grade levels, please invite them to call the school office.  Tours will resume after May 19th.

Thank you to all who are selling (or buying) the World’s Finest Chocolate Bars.  We have a few boxes left for anyone who is interested. Money should be turned in ASAP.

Everyone continues to be in our prayers. Please continue to keep us in yours.

Sincerely,

Marianne Cote, Principal
