“This is a holy place where we discover each other in God’s love.”

May 18, 2022

Dear St. Joseph School Families,

As mentioned last week, the month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary.  We continue to pray that she will watch over all of her children—young and not so young—in our St. Joseph School family.

In preparing for the coming school year, please be mindful of the fact that our uniforms are made to order, since each school wears its own plaid.  It is important to order early for this reason.  Those who order before mid-June usually receive a discount. Students entering 6th grade have a change in uniform style.  Please consult the Donnelly’s website or the uniform section of the Handbook for this information.

This Friday, May 20th is a 12:30 dismissal day. After school care will be available.

We congratulate our first graders who presented their play to their parents and the students on Friday. Upcoming plays include Kindergarten on May 27th and Grade 8 on June 2ndAwards Day, during which we honor our 8th graders and other students receiving awards, takes place on June 3rd at 10 a.m. Graduation is June 4th at the 4 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church. We also remind you that June 8th is our last day of school for this year with a dismissal time of 10:30. No aftercare is available on this day. Dismissal on June 6th and 7th will be at 12:30 p.m. with after school care available. Please mark your calendars for these important events.

Our Band will hold its annual spring concert on Wednesday, May 25th at 6:30 in the evening. We encourage all who are available to join us in celebrating the musical talents of our students.

As we move toward our normal activity level, we are planning an Open House on the evening of May 26th from 5-7 p.m.  This is for new and prospective parents.  If you are aware of anyone entering grades Kindergarten through Grade 6 who may be interested in sending their children to St. Joseph School, please encourage them to attend this evening of touring and questions answered by faculty and staff.

All library books are due back to the library before May 26th

Upcoming field trips include the following.

  • May23rd Grade 8 Retreat at Enders Island
  • May 23rd Grades 6 and 7 to NESS
  • May 24th Grade 8 to Holiday Hill
  • May 25th Grade 8 to Adventure Park Ropes Course in Storrs
  • May 31st Grades 2 and 3 to the Mystic Aquarium, Grade 7 Harkness

We would like to thank the following Home and School Association officers for their service to our school during the past several years: Presidents—Lisa Lazarou, whose son will be graduating this year; Eva Papathanasiou, whose daughter will be entering the 8th grade, and Secretary—Gillian Egan, whose daughter will also be graduating.  These officers will be stepping down, while our Treasurer—Jennifer Bustamonte will remain.  Many thanks for all you have done and will continue to do for our school.

We welcome new co-Presidents to share their talents in service to our school.  Mrs. Kristin Massad and Mrs. Susan Tierney will take on these positions.  I ask that everyone applaud their efforts and support their ideas as we continue to make St. Joseph School the wonderful school family it is.

We continue to keep everyone in our prayers and ask that you keep us in yours, as we continue this challenging school year.

God’s Blessings!
