“A holy place where we discover each other in God’s love”
October 26, 2022
Dear St. Joseph School Families, We continue in this month of October, dedicated to the Holy Rosary to pray this prayer for peace in our hearts and our world. As we pray this week, we also give thanks for our school and its families. Activities last week included a visit from our local firefighters. We thank the New London Firefighters for visiting with our Kindergarten and First Grade. The children had fun learning all about the equipment and especially the truck. Also last week, our 2nd and 3rd Graders enjoyed a day at Mystic Seaport, as a part of their study of whaling in New London history. The basketball season is right around the corner. An email was sent, as well as permission slips for your children in Grades 5-8 who wish to be a part of our girls’ or boys’ basketball teams. Please return this to school by tomorrow in order that plans can be made. Mrs. Clare Powers will be coaching the girls’ team. We are still looking for a boys’ team coach. Students in Grades 6 through 8 will be attending the United States Coast Guard concert on Friday, October 28th. All permission slips are due on Thursday. Our first class play of the year will be performed by Grade 4 on Friday. Each year we look forward to inviting our families to school for the class performances in which their children take part. We are continuing our work toward our accreditation renewal. Our Visiting Committee, representing the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, arrived on Sunday and has been spending time in our school this week. We want to express our thanks to these dedicated volunteers who come from other Catholic Schools to assist our school to grow and improve. Our school Halloween party for school families will be held on Saturday, October 29th per the flyer that was sent home. October 31 will be a Dress Down Day for our school. This is Halloween themed—black and orange or specific Halloween shirts. The donation will be $3.00 per person. All donations will be given to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. Children in Grades K-5 will be decorating pumpkins to bring home. Children in Grades K-2 will have the assistance of our 6-8 Graders. Please note these important upcoming dates and important changes to the calendar.
Our Mission is: “To Accept each person as a unique creation in God’s image; to Model Jesus as we make everyone feel welcome in this holy place; to Educate each other for life; and, to Nurture the diverse gifts and talents of the whole school family.” We are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which your children’s faith is nourished, while receiving an excellent academic education. As always, St. Joseph School continues under the guidance of our Norwich Diocese and the parish of the St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Community. As you are the first educators of your children. you entrust us to educate your children in the best possible way. We take this trust seriously! Prayer and spirituality are integral to who we are as people, and as a school family. We continue to seek God’s help with all that we do. Please continue your prayers for our families, our staff, our school, and all who are in need of prayer due to illness, tragedy and violence. God’s Blessings on All, Marianne Cote Principal |
