“A Holy Place Where We Discover Each Other In God’s Love.”
November 30, 2022
Dear St. Joseph School Families,
We have begun the Advent season with our traditional St. Joseph School Advent morning prayer in the auditorium. As we light the Advent wreath candles and remember the scripture stories, we are reminded of the journey we have traveled awaiting the birth of Jesus. Each day, we remember all of you in our prayers, as we work to be the light of Christ for those around us.
This Friday is First Friday. We will celebrate Mass at 9 a.m. in the Church. Our 6th graders will be readers and gift bearers for this Mass. There is also a 12:30 dismissal to allow time for our faculty meeting. Lastly, report cards will be distributed on Friday. Please sign the envelope and return it to your child’s teacher. This let’s us know you have seen the report card. Questions regarding grades earned should be addressed with the individual teachers.
Santa’s Workshop takes place this Saturday, December 3rd in the school auditorium for our families from 9 a.m. to Noon. There will be crafts, snacks, and visits with Santa and his elves.
Wreaths orders should be picked up at the School/Church parking lot on December 5th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Lessons and Carols, which takes place on December 9th at 6:30 p.m., is a required event for all students. As mentioned previously, dark slacks and white shirts with a Christmas appropriate tie is the attire for the boys and young men. Dark skirts and white blouses or sweaters is appropriate for the girls and young women. No athletic shoes, please. Students should be in their seats at 6:15 p.m. At least one adult must be present for each student.
Starting on December 12th through the 21st, boys will be allowed to wear Christmas ties in lieu of their school ties. All students may wear Christmas sweaters or sweatshirts as well. These are to be worn with their uniforms.
Many have asked about basketball and while we have repeatedly asked for volunteers, only one coach has come forward for the girls’ team. Students have signed up to play; however, the Diocesan regulations require two coaches per team and paperwork to be completed by coaches, players, and parents of players. I am sorry but, we are not allowed to practice or play until this is all in place.
Our December “Dress-Down” Day for others will take place on December 16th. The donation will be a stocking stuffer, $5.00 or under in cost. These will be donated to the Christmas efforts of the Department of Children and Families for foster children.
On December 15th, the Home-School Association will provide dinner to the guests of the Community Meal Center on Montauk Avenue. You have graciously assisted in this effort in the past, and we ask you once again in these difficult times to give as you are able. You will be contacted by your room parent, regarding a donation, which should be dropped off at the door of the meal center at 4 p.m.
For future planning, Christmas recess begins at 12:30 p.m. on December 21st. There will be no afterschool care on that day.
In this busy season, may this Advent time provide peace in your busy lives, giving you the opportunity to reflect on the reason for this time…the birth of Christ once again into our world and our hearts.
My prayers are with you. Please keep each of us in yours.
God’s Blessings,
Marianne Cote, Principal
