“This is a holy place where we discover each other in God’s love.”

March 29, 2023

Dear Families of St. Joseph School,

We wish to congratulate our students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time yesterday. Please pray for them as they continue to prepare for their First Holy Communion on April 30th at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

As was mentioned in my letter last week, we will be holding a mini-fundraiser to cover the costs associated with Games Day (Field Day).  These expenses include the shirts, lunch, and snacks for the students on Games Day, May 30, 2023.  A box of Chocolate bars is being sent home today for each family to sell.  The cost of the box is $60 when sold at $1.00 per bar. Please feel free to sell the chocolate to family, friends or neighbors, co-workers, or simply make a $35 donation to the school outright and return the unopened box for someone else to sell. Everyone’s support is needed! We thank you for supporting your children’s school activities.

You may be interested to know that tuition and book fees only cover a part of the cost of running our school on a day-to-day basis. Grants, our school endowment, and donations from our parish cover the remaining costs for this.  The costs of all additional activities or assistance with field trips comes from the Home and School Association fundraising efforts.

The St. Joseph School Board is having some fundraisers to supplement the general operating expenses for the school to allow our endowment to continue to grow.  This is being done in 3 parts: a dinner/raffle celebrating the 85th anniversary of the school, a raffle of one ticket for a September Pilgrimage trip to Ireland, and a Golf Tournament on Fisher’s Island in the fall. You may be asked to support some of these fundraisers.  Please be as generous as you are able.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday and next week is Holy Week, the most solemn time of the Church year. During the week our students will participate in some Holy Week prayer experiences. On Good Friday evening, volunteers from our 8th and 7th grade classes will be sharing the Living Stations of the Cross at St. Joseph Church.

Report Cards will be distributed on Friday, March 31st.  Please review these. If you have questions or wish to speak with a teacher, please request an appointment through each teacher’s email.  These may be found on the website at sjsnl.com under “Our Faculty”.

Thank you for your continued support. Please keep all those in need of prayers in yours, as we keep you in our prayers.

God’s Blessings on Everyone!
