“This is a holy place where we discover each other in God’s love.”
April 24, 2024
Dear St. Joseph School Families,
Faith is an interesting thing! It allows us to see the goodness of God in our lives in spite of all the negative things going on in our world. Our school is one of those gifts to us that exists because God is so good. He has entrusted to us His awesome creation with the mission to use it wisely and keep it safe. We and our children are called to do this. Our school plays a vital role in accomplishing this mission. As always, the success of our school and its programs requires everyone’s participation!
We thank Mr. Darren Sardelli, poet, for joining us once again. I hope your children shared with you how much fun writing poetry can be!
We extend our congratulations to Mrs. Smith and Grades 2-8 who participated in our Spring Concert. I know we can all agree that it was excellent! God agreed too, as a beautiful rainbow appeared over the school during our concert!
Congratulations also to our students in Grades 6-8 who presented their science projects at the exhibit on Monday evening. Bravo to those who worked hard to see this happen. Many thanks to our science teachers, Ms. Kornacki and Ms. Lakowsky.
Our Basket Social was a success, earning approximately $2,400. Many thanks to our chairperson, Jackie Hernandez, all of her helpers, and those who attended and donated.
This evening is Dine-In or Take-out night from 4-8 p.m. at Mr. G’s Restaurant. Please come and tell your server that you are there for St. Joseph School.
Our Walk-a-thon is coming soon on May 18th. Please refer to the information sent previously. T-shirt orders are due on Friday. You received a sponsor/donations sheet previously. With your support this event will be very successful! It is being chaired by Mrs. Persi and Mrs. Morello.
Many of our families have contributed to everything, many have contributed as they were able, but some have not done their part either by helping or participating financially. It is so very important that we work as a school family for the benefit of all! Some are wondering where this money goes. As examples, we are currently seeking to renew the playground, and our field trip and enrichment fund is used to assist with the costs of these. These efforts are supported by the Home and School Association (to which every parent and staff member belongs) fundraising. While it may seem that we are having one fundraiser after another, if everyone participated in a few, the number of these could be lessened.
Our Casual Day on this Thursday, April 25 will benefit Special Olympics CT and our St. Joseph School Faculty and Staff team for “Over the Edge” at Mohegan Sun. All proceeds go to support Special Olympics CT. This year the Diocese of Norwich is asking our schools to participate. Eleven of us at St. Joseph have agreed to rappel from the Mohegan Sun Hotel (30 Stories down), and are in the process of raising $1,250 each. So far we have raised over almost $8,000 of the $13,750 needed from our personal families and friends, as well as, former parents and students. Our school families are being asked to support with our next two casual days. “Over the Edge for Special Olympics CT” takes place on August 30, 2024. Bishop Cote has given all schools in the Diocese who are participating the day off in order that families and remaining staff can be our cheerleaders at the hotel. Currently, our list of participants includes Miss Cote, Mrs. Andriks, Mrs. Batch, Mrs. Bustamonte, Mrs. Egan, Ms. Ford, Ms. Kornacki, Ms. Lakowsky, Ms. Lawton, Mrs. Pisarz, and Mrs. Williamson. Thank you for your support. Not only does this support a very important cause, but also speaks volumes about St. Joseph School and its mission and commitment to service! Others in our Diocese who are participating include St. Patrick’s, St. John Paul II and a Superintendents Team. Our team is the largest!
